Humanity is unlikely to survive the continued diminishing of the natural world - not so much because we need its "resources," but because, in a real sense, we are diminishing ourselves as part of it.

Safety vs. Risk

In our culture, "playing it safe" is bad, and taking risks is good. If survival is valued as "good" and death is "bad," then it is bad if everyone either plays it safe or takes risks. On the other hand, most people playing it safe, and a few people taking risks, is good.

Dumb Defense

Ignorance doesn't absolve you of responsibility for your actions, it just means you're guilty and stupid.
